Maison Martin Margiela for Converse – mmm
I found out about the second collaboration between Belgian powerhouse label Maison Martin Margiela (MMM) and beloved shoe brand Converse from French Vogue, and did a little “yay.” I love both brands, and especially a good collaboration. This one, called First String, is seriously cool. (This is the kind of innovation that gets my blood pumping). Your shoes will actually change colour over time, as the white overpaint you can see below erodes with wear to reveal one of four bold colours from the archives underneath. Clever!
Belgian label MMM has reworked the All Star Chuck (in Amber Glow and True Navy) and the Jack Purcell (in Azure Blue and Biking Red). The shoes are made completely of leather and have a distinctive cracked paint look, in keeping with the current Art/Fashion trend. MMM collaborated with H & M last year, which resulted in a sell out collection and another foray into the mainstream for this luxury brand.
They are available from 23rd May from Converse boutiques in California (San Francisco, Santa Monica and Soho) and also MMM boutiques around the world, priced at $250. Think of it as an investment in art.
