I’m off to London at the weekend and was researching what was new fashion-wise for me to visit at the moment. Luckily, a helpful and information e-mail stood out in the promotions part of my Gmail. I need to blog about this! I exclaimed in my head. Next thought – I need to go. Next thought – heaven help my credit card!!! I’ve always had a weaker spot for shoes than bags or any other accessories, and Harrods newly designed Shoe Heaven promises to stamp on, exploit and tempt yours with everything the best designers have to throw at you.
Half-hearted shoe enthusiasts need not enter. This is serious business. 43,000 square feet of dedicated shoe space on the fifth floor. You want details? Fifty-five designers are showcasing 100,000 pairs of shoes. Yes, you read it right. Seventeen designers have their own boutiques within the space (can you guess who – Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo to name but a few). The entire shoe collections for luxury brands are available in one place, with some limited editions designed exclusively for Harrods. Designer boutiques are realised with both the brand and the Harrods ethos in mind – you’ll be blown away by the amazing attention to detail.
Couple that little lot with pop-ups, exclusive limited collections and concessions displaying up-and-coming designers and more niche brands and it becomes mindblowing. Want a unique experience? Splash the cash and book in for VIP treatment in a private shopping suite.
The idea for this heavenly place came from the mind of Harrods fashion director Helen David, who then gave the design brief to the late great architect David Collins and his team. It’s elegance personified, all marble and Art Deco features to showcase the spectacular merchandise at its most splendid. To celebrate the opening of Shoe Heaven, some of the most influential designers have put pen to paper to design stunning limited edition silver footwear (I especially like the Roger Vivier and Nicholas Kirkwood offerings). Please enjoy your time in Heaven responsibly, and tell me about your trip!
